The Big Jump

From sunday, there has been one man’s name on everybody’s lips – Felix Baumgartner’s that is. A man, that only few of us knew before, jumped to the awareness of everybody on sunday the 14th of October when he jumped from stratosphere, about 39 kilometers high and made few new world records including the highest jump ever made and being the first man to break the speed of sound in freefall.

Behind this huge jump was Austrian energy drink manufacturer Red Bull, who had enormous amounts of publicity from Felix’s jump. Red Bull and Felix started to train for this jump as early as 2010 and in the quite large team was also Joe Kittinger, who held the record of the highest jump until sunday evening.

The advertising was done just perfectly – Red Bull had it’s own mission control (with it’s own “alien” team member drinking Red Bull), Felix’s pressurized suit had many Red Bull logos in it and so did the capsule that he used on the way up. On YouTube Red Bull had it’s own channel with live broadcasting of the event and real time data from the capsule and of course there’s also the website for Red Bull Stratos which has a lot of information and pics related to this project. Not to mention about of all the free advertisement they got from media around the world.

Red Bull has declined to comment about the costs of this record braking project and has only commented that the jump gave a lot of scientific information about how human body survives under extreme stress.

Red Bull made it to the eyes and ears of everybody by this hugely advertised and hyped stunt they pulled. It doesn’t matter how much it cost – the pay back will be bigger than the pricetag of this project on the long term.

Great advertisement for your energy drink boys!
